KOCHVILLE TOWNSHIP, MI — It was 12 months ago when George Grant Jr. was isolated in a conference room on the third floor of Saginaw Valley State University's Wickes Hall, where he waited to learn if the institution's governing board voted him as the college's next president. Along with his wife, Grant waited with a third person — an SVSU staff member — as the SVSU Board of Control vote proceeded down the hall. 'If the board voted no, I think his job was to tell us the bad news and show us out the back,' Grant said, at least half-joking.
