SAGINAW, MI — At the childhood home of the late Saginaw poet, Theodore Roethke, a media and culture scholar this week will discuss how writing impacts modern day perceptions about the future. Devon Powers, a University of Michigan professor of communication and media, will address the topic at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at the house, 1805 Gratiot . The presentation — titled 'Future Tense: On Writing the Future of Culture' — is free and open to the public, and will be broadcast online via Zoom. Powers will examine the role of journalists in shaping cultural understandings about the future, planners said.
